All project findings

Nurses’ roles in medicines management or interdisciplinary pharmaceutical care are not transparent and vary between European countries. Similarly, in nurse education, there is no clear description of specific learning outcomes for medicines management or pharmaceutical care, and curricula in pharmaceutical care vary considerably. Curricula do not match the needs of the labour market, patients and society. Inadequate transparency and recognition of nurses' roles, together with international variation in nursing practice and nurse education, has a major impact. It hinders collaboration on different levels: interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical practice; transnational collaboration in research, education and innovation across Europe; labour mobility of nurses. As a result, patient safety is threatened, development and innovation are slowed down, and healthcare budgets are not used in the most efficient way. DeMoPhaC (Development of a Model for nurses role in Pharmaceutical Care) is a large-scale European research in 14 countries. In different parts of the project we have investigated nurses' role in interprofessional pharmaceutical care.
